Id takes a good, long moment to simply stare at the guy. He can use his own hefty sword's momentum to hurtle himself across a distance in a fight, but he doesn't throw it and just appear where it landed. That'd be one hell of a convenient trick to have up one's sleeve though, evidenced by the way this guy got himself back on deck.
