"Leather armour isn't metal." In fact, much of Link's armour didn't have any metal at all. Often he preferred it that way - the freedom of movement was worth more than the additional protection.

He's not sure what to make of Aerich's other comment, however. Metal attracts magic? "Magic like...lightning?" Maybe that kind of elemental magic was common where Aerich came from?
