As Ken stares up at it, the Terminator takes the initiative and simply reaches down and hauls him up with one hand. "Get behind me." It orders as the tentacle thrashes around, and, before it settles on the broken mop handle protruding from where Ken successfully managed to stab it.

As the appendages thrashes wildly, the T-800's hand snaps out and grabs the handle, and pulls. The motion is strong enough to tear the handle out of the tentacle, leaving the Terminator with a sort of makeshift spear; the broken handle will make an acceptable stabbing weapon.
"The path behind me is clear. I will cover your escape." It continues, thrusting forward to try and drive the tentacle back or wound it further. This child is young and small, much smaller than the Terminator. It makes sense that he should flee in the face of such danger.
