Well, I didn't want to have to work in the factories or something, so I laid it on pretty thick when I saw them at the Servant's Gate. And right after they first bought me, because I didn't want to get sold right back off, either. They're not in control of the family's assets anymore, their oldest daughter is, and she thinks I'm trying to make off with their savings, [which isn't wrong, to be fair] so I had to be on my best behavior at all times so she couldn't find a reason to sell me, or kill me, or whatever. So I'm pretty sure they think I'm their poor little precious rescue puppy they can dress up however they want and I'm happy to cook and clean and do all their laundry for them because I'm just so grateful.

[All of this is said in a dry monotone, like he's only irritated at worst by it all. This is old, bitter news to Jamil.]

The fact that they haven't shut my magic off means they probably think something happened to me instead of me running off. I guess that means I was pretty convincing.
